The loss of live music has hit hard for many people during the COVID-19 lockdown, but some residents have had the music come to them instead.
As part of the new council initiative ‘Porch Performances’, some lucky senior residents in Melton were treated to live music outside their homes as part of a special socially distanced gig recently.
Local performers, The Hoffmans, put on a 30 minute show for a group of senior residents at a group of council flats, including Mary, who was celebrating her 94th birthday.
The initiative specifically targeted older and vulnerable residents who have limited or no access to the internet.
Melton mayor Lara Carli said it was important to put a smile on the faces of locals at this tough time, and the show was a huge success.
“It was lovely to treat some of our music-loving seniors to these special performances,” Cr Carli said.
“The live music brought so much joy to each and every one of these residents, and it was clear how much it meant to them at this challenging time.
“For these residents, online concerts and movies are not an option, so to have this entertainment brought to them was really positive for their wellbeing and something I’m very proud council could deliver.”
