Truck rampage ‘terror’ in Melton and Caroline Springs

The driver of a stolen truck caused havoc in Melton and Caroline Springs last week before dumping the vehicle in Braybrook.

Greg Steers, director of Midnight Plumbing Services, had his work truck stolen from a private property in Melton last Wednesday morning.

The vehicle, featuring the company’s logo and phone number, was hard to miss.

Mr Steers soon started getting phone calls about “crazy” driving.

He said the driver took the truck on a rampage across Melton and Caroline Springs, side-swiping other vehicles along the way.

He said the driver was “terrorising people”, driving over footpaths and roundabouts, and knocking over street signs.

“He had no regard for anyone’s safety,” Mr Steers said of the driver, who is believed to be a male. “He could have killed someone.”

The truck was found in Braybrook six hours after being stolen. It had sustained severe damage.

Beyond the financial damage caused, Mr Steers said he was worried for the reputation of his company.

“I just want to get it out there that it was stolen and we certainly don’t carry on like that,” he said. “It’s just a terrible thing to happen.”

Senior Sergeant Simon Payne, of Melton police, has reminded the community to lock up their vehicles, especially at night.

Police are calling on witnesses to help identify the offender. Anyone who has had their vehicle damaged due to this incident is also advised to call Melton police.

There have been no reported injuries in relation to the incident.
