New classes a hit with learners

A new range of adult education classes is creating a buzz in Melton.
The classes – which run at the Djerriwarrh education and community services neighbourhood house – have included a special series of lessons in Moroccan cooking, run by local chef Abder Said.
The classes have been a hit, with a Djerriwarrh spokesperson saying it had been a welcome addition to their timetable of classes.
“Abder has such a huge passion for cooking, and people are calling [the course] more of an experience than a class,” the spokesperson said.

“Everyone that’s come along has had a great time learning to preserve, getting fresh stuff from the garden and turning it into a great meal, and it’s really big on healthy cooking on a budget, which has been great to see.
“It’s a very engaging lesson and the feedback we’ve had from the first two weeks has been fantastic. I think it will become a really popular course.”
The neighbourhood house also has pre-accredited and accredited education courses in English language, sewing and cleaning which have seen a number of participants gain employment after starting their course.

“It’s great to see the community coming together in these courses,” the spokesperson said.

“Getting the education is fantastic, but also having that community feel around it all is a real positive. People are coming together and having a great experience while learning some important skills to help them, which is great.”
Similar courses are also running at the reciprocal Neighbourhood House in Sunshine.
