#Talking2041: Forums to plan Moorabool shire’s growth

Moorabool Shire is preparing for a population boom that could be bigger than the growth in Melton.

The council wants to hear its ratepayers’ views on how best to manage the expected growth and has launched a community engagement process called Talking 2041.

As Star Weekly has reported, the council predicts an extra 17,000 residents in the Bacchus Marsh district by 2041, with 5000 more new homes and 10,000 more cars.

The council is already planning for that level of growth but suspects it could be even higher.

The boom may be even bigger than the growth being experienced in Melton, already one of Australia’s fastest-growing areas.

To help with the planning, council is calling on the community to take part in workshops to guide the future of Bacchus Marsh.

The community’s input will be incorporated into an urban growth strategy as part of ‘Moorabool 2041’ planning.

Mayor Paul Tatchell said the community had an opportunity to work together to ensure the area grew the right way.

“It’s important that people get involved in this process, share their aspirations and help guide the future of this area,” he said.

The workshops will focus on the Bacchus Marsh district, which includes Bacchus Marsh, Darley, Maddingley, Bences Road, Hopetoun Park, Long Forest and Parwan.

The first workshop will be in the supper room on 207 Main Street, Bacchus Marsh, from 6pm on Thursday, November 27.

A second workshop will be at the same venue from 1pm on Sunday, November 30.
