Wet weather causes havoc in the GDCA

Rain again played havoc in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association McIntyre Cup at the weekend.

For a second straight match, there was limited play on day one of matches, with heavy rain falling on Friday and throughout Saturday.

Bacchus Marsh was the big winner against Riddell, as just two matches got underway.

The Bulls claimed first innings points and will have a good shot at an outright result.

The Bulls bowled Riddell out for just 88, with Kasun Suriaratchie taking 6-23 – his best return for the season.

The Bombers started well and were 0-36 before losing three wickets for no runs to slump to 3-36.

They would continue to lose wickets throughout.

Michael Day top scored with 31 at the top of the order for the Bombers.

The Bulls were 2-94 when stumps were called. James Lidgett was unbeaten on 56.

Just 26 overs were bowled at Arnolds Creek, between St Anthony’s and Diggers Rest Bulla.

After winning the toss, the Saints were 2-56 when play was halted.

Paul Scott was 17 not out, while Darren McCrae was 16 not out when the rain got too heavy.

Raveen De Silva was the wicket taker for Diggers Rest Bulla.

There was no play between Gisborne and Romsey and Sunbury United and Woodend.

There was no play across the rest of the divisions and the Johnstone Shield.
