Toolern Vale grass fire finally brought under control

Firefighters battled for more than hour to bring a grass fire under control in Toolern Vale.

The fire was burning at Toolern Vale and sent smoke billowing through the surrounding areas including the Calder Freeway near Sunbury.

The Country Fire Authority issued a Watch and Act warning for Toolern Vale, The Gap, Sunbury, Gisborne South, Couangault shortly after 3pm.

The medium sized fire was moving in a north-easterly direction and burned out of control for about an hour, forcing the CFA to bring more trucks in to tackle the blaze.

The fire was brought under control just before 4pm and the warning downgraded.
