Melton tales to be told

Storytellers are being encouraged to put pen to paper this month for Melton council’s short story competition.

The competition, which includes categories for juniors, teenagers and adults, will be judged by a panel of authors, with entrants going into the running for $3000 of prizes.

Short stories can be submitted in print, illustration, video, verse or voice – or a combination.

Melton mayor Bob Turner said the competition would be a celebration of local talent.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for creative thinkers to showcase their talents and have their work viewed by popular authors,” Cr Turner said.

“However you tell your tale, we look forward to seeing your imagination and skill on display.”

This year’s judges are award-winning children’s author Lorna Hendry; Melbourne- based writer, reviewer and youth literature advocate Danielle Binks; and Sarah Bailey, writer and director of creative projects company Mr Smith.

Adult entries can be up to 3000 words and junior and teen entries can be up to 1500 words. Other formats should take no longer than five minutes. Authors must live, work or study in the City of Melton or be a library member.

Entries will be accepted until August 19.
