Coach tips new champs at Melton South Tennis Club

Melton kids sweated it out on court for four hours last week under the supervision of famous tennis coach Allistair McCaw.

McCaw came down to the Melton South Tennis Club on Wednesday to give some insights into what it takes to be the next Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic.

“A lot of the kids have aspirations to be the next Rafael or the next Djokovic,” club coach Danielle Borle said.

“Allistair’s giving all the kids an insight into movement patterns they can work on at home, and things they can do to better their performances. It’s about teaching the kids the right way to train.”

There were 40 young players, aged between 8 and 15 and decked out in Allistair McCaw tshirts, learning the tricks of the trade from the maestro.

Melton teen Sean Duffy, who is a Roger Federer fan, has been playing tennis for the past six years, and says he enjoys every moment of it.

“The movement, the training, everything is really fun,” Sean said.

Following on last month’s Australian Open Blitz Campaign, the club finished sixth out of 20,000 towns nationwide, and is being represented by Simona Halep, the world No.3.
