Youth job help program

A new program that aims to help young locals get their careers moving is about to start in Melton.

Run by Youth Now, the program is targeted at those aged 15 to 30 who are looking for work, or have drifted out of the education system, and will help them with their resumes or further education needs for their future.

The program will run out of Lazy Moe’s from 2pm on Thursday afternoons, starting July 18.

Youth Now training coordinator Tania Sacco said it would be an important resource for Melton’s youth.

“We’re trying to keep our young people up to speed with the pace of technology and change, because education and employment in the area is well below the national average,” Ms Sacco said.

“We want to invite young people who aren’t working to come along and we’ll review their job documents. We will tailor it to the individual, and really make the time to get them moving into employment, or looking at short courses that they may need.”

Youth Now will provide free pizza and soft drink for those that come along.

Ms Sacco urged the community to support the program.

“We want to invite people in the community to look at who isn’t working, bring them along to get that chance to get tailored support by trained by professionals,” she said.

“People can keep coming each week to keep the momentum rolling. I love seeing people get jobs, it’s really empowering for them to reach that goal.”
