Two Melton sports clubs will help get more locals active thanks to some government assistance.
Melton Bowling Club and Melton Hockey Club will each receive $3000 from the state government’s Active Club Grants program, which supports clubs in introducing social, flexible and accessible sports programs.
Melton MP Steve McGhie said it was fantastic there would be more activities, teams and opportunities for the community to get involved in sport.
“Active Club Grants will help create more opportunities for people of all ages, genders and abilities to get active and enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle,” Mr McGhie said.
“Taking part in community sport is a great way to make new friends and get active with others while also improving your own health and wellbeing. I encourage everyone in Melton to look at what opportunities are available.”
VicHealth acting chief executive Lyn Roberts said Active Club Grants helped get more people in the community moving in new ways.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support local sporting clubs in Melton to provide more opportunities for the community to get active through a sport they enjoy,” Dr Roberts said.
“These grants will help get more Victorians in Melton into the game by offering modified or social versions of traditional sport where your age, ability, background, lifestyle or gender isn’t a barrier to taking part.”
