RDFL: Melton South Panthers after new coach

Melton South is after a new A-grade netball coach after Bon Tai had to stand down with work commitments.

Netball director Jenna Nicolle said the players had put together a program but were searching for someone to take over the role.

“Just before Christmas, Bon stepped away and now we’re hanging to put together a pre-season by ourselves while we’re also searching,” Nicolle said.

“Bon is going to give us a hand with it, with training starting next week.”

Nicolle said that while there was experience in the side, having a coach was a necessity.

“We have a pretty qualified team with people with fitness backgrounds,” she said.

“We have a couple of leads so hopefully someone will step up from those.”

Nicolle said the team’s focus would be on improvement in coming years.

The Panthers finished ninth last year.

“The last five years we’ve been building a culture at the club and everyone has been helping out.

“Now that the club is set up we want to build on the success.

“We want to find some successful players and be able to retain them.

“We also want to continue to build on the younger players and their development.”
