Bacchus Marsh remains in the finals hunt of the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup with a win over Gisborne on Saturday.
Sitting sixth on the ladder, Bacchus Marsh is now equal on points with Gisborne, which entered the round in fourth place and slipped to fifth with a loss.
Batting first, Bacchus Marsh opener Peter Lalor cracked a quickfire 54.
When he was dismissed with the score on 77, the wickets tumbled far too quickly for the Marsh’s liking, its innings finishing at
9-146.
But it got off to a perfect start with the ball, dismissing Gisborne captain-coach Daniel Trevillian for a duck.
Similar to its own in
nings, wickets fell rapidly, with Gisborne needing eight runs with two wickets in hand to win.
Bacchus Marsh managed to get both wickets without a run scored, to win by seven runs.
In B-grade, Bacchus Marsh produced a shock with its massive win over Diggers Rest Bulla.
Batting first, Bacchus Marsh made the most of benign conditions, reaching 7-210.
Ian Spiteri top-scored with 70 and opener Jack Lalor made 64.
Diggers Rest Bulla could manage only 111, with Robert Somers and Jack Powell taking four wickets apiece.
The loss drops Diggers Rest Bulla outside the top four, while Bacchus Marsh is nine points clear of the bottom-placed Sunbury United.
St Anthonys also suffered a loss: to East Sunbury for the second time this season.
St Anthonys struggled to make 67, which East Sunbury passed with ease.
