Melton Thoroughbreds made it two wins in a row in Big V men’s division 2 on Saturday night.

It was a fast start for the Thoroughbreds against the Altona Gators, jumping out to a 14-point lead at the first change.

The Gators closed the gap over the next two quarters, with the Thoroughbreds lead cut to six points at the last break.

But the Thoroughbreds steadied, winning 85-73.

Wol Wol Ngong top scored with 18 points coming off the bench, with import Chris Johnson playing just 10 minutes after getting in foul trouble.

The win keeps the Thoroughbreds in sixth spot.

The Thoroughbreds women’s side had a tougher night, losing to the Sherbrooke Suns 75-60.

A slow start proved costly for the Thoroughbreds, who were down by 13 points after the first break.

Allanna Procak top scored with 13 points. The loss sees the Thoroughbreds slip to seventh spot with three wins for the year. It’s their third straight loss.

The Thoroughbreds youth league men’s side also had a tough weekend, losing to the Craigieburn Eagles 101-85.

The Eagles did all the damage early, leading by 31 points at half-time. Max Beaumont top scored with 23 for the Thoroughbreds, who slipped to fifth spot.
