Staying safe with pets

Prep pupils at Melton South Primary School had a special treat last week when they had a visit from a number of furry friends.

As part of the Responsible Pet Ownership program, pupils took part in a session on how to live safely with dogs and other animals, as well as some hands-on tips.

The program – which visits more than 2000 kindergartens and 800 primary schools across Victoria annually – includes pet educators delivering their important message through animated presentations, song and role play.

The program also introduced and developed concepts on choosing an appropriate pet, the importance of identification and registration, and housing, exercise and training for pets.
