Melton and Ballarat will clash on the footy oval and netball court for charity.

Two masters superules football teams and a netball squad from each club will face off next month in exhibition matches to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

The annual Cancer Cup, to be held on March 31, is now in its fifth year and is won on aggregate points scored in the over 45s and over 35s football games as well as an open netball game.

Melton Panthers club treasurer Gareth Ryan said the event aims to raise as much as possible for the Cancer Council.

“You’re looking at old blokes who just want a game,” Mr Ryan said.

“You might see a couple of heavy hits – if they can catch each other – but it will be a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.

“It’s a good way to raise some money for a good cause.

“Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way and this is a great way to raise awareness and funds towards the work that the Cancer Council does.”

The netball match will involved women and girls from all age groups.

The over 45s game is scheduled for 11.30am with netball to follow and the 35s take to the oval at 2.30pm.
