Two men charged over assault of firefighters

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault on two firefighters in Bacchus Marsh last night (February 3).

Emergency services were called to a Shea Street address about 9.30pm after reports of a fire burning on a total fire ban day.

Two male firefighters were allegedly assaulted after they were involved in an altercation with two occupants of the home.

Both firefighters sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old man a short time later.

The 22-year-old has been charged with assault emergency worker on duty, assault, affray and threats to kill.

He has been bailed to appear at Bacchus Marsh Magistrates Court on March 8.

A 47-year-old man has been charged on summons with lighting a fire during a fire danger period, affray, and assault emergency worker on duty.

He will face court at a later date.
