Police are on the hunt for a gunman after he opened fire on a father-to-be and three other men in a suspected carjacking gone wrong.
Onosai Kuka, 25, was driving his two brothers and a friend to work along the Melton Highway at Taylors Lakes about 2am last Tuesday when shots were fired at his car.
Mr Kuka said that the gunman was in a silver sedan with a number of people inside the vehicle.
He said that the driver of the sedan threatened to ram his vehicle and followed him a short distance before producing a firearm and spraying his car with bullets.
“I saw the driver pull out the gun and try to shoot us,” Mr Kuka said.
One bullet shattered the rear window of Mr Kuka’s car, while another bullet narrowly missed the head of a back-seat passenger before it pierced Mr Kuka’s headrest and grazed the back of his neck.
“I was screaming because it hurts,” he said.
Mr Kuka said it was a “miracle” he was alive, but said he was worried the gunman would strike again. “We need to get rid of those people … they are very dangerous,” he said.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was cleared of any serious injury.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said multiple shots had been fired at the vehicle, resulting in an injury to the driver.
Armed Crime Squad detectives confirmed they were investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
