Melton’s Jordyn Charge says he exceeded his own expectations after competing at one of speedway’s biggest events.
The 19 year-old raced at the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic earlier this month at Warrnambool – his fourth time at the premier speedway event.
Charge had a consistent run in the heat races with third and fourth-place finishes rewarding him with a top-10 start position for the 30-lap preliminary feature race.
He said “he drove his heart out”, narrowly missing out on a top-10 finish but picking up the Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions during the race.
“Just to qualify for the feature race for the country’s biggest speedway event is a massive accomplishment, but to be so close to cracking into the top 10 and also picking up the hard-charger award was amazing,” Charge said.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of my whole family and the guidance of my mentor and crew chief Matthew Reed, who all put so much into my racing.” Charge and his team will take on Hamilton’s Western Speedway for the eighth round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds series on February 16.
