Sisters so happy to try

Triathlon is a family affair for the Costanzo sisters of Caroline Springs.

Sienna, 13, Ella, 12, and eight-year-old Lucy will take part in the upcoming Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.

Early bird registrations are now open for the March 10 Melbourne event, which is part of a national series designed for kids aged seven to 15 – no matter their sports abilities or experience.

The sisters’ mum, Lia Costanzo, said her girls were already training for this year’s event, which will be their second together.

TRYathlon uses a healthy outdoor activity to boost self-esteem in a friendly environment.

Kids in the seven to 10 age group complete a 75-metre swim, three-kilometre cycle and 500-metre run. Athletes aged between 11 and 15 do a 150-metre swim, six-kilometre cycle and a kilometre run.

Seven-time world champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore will be at the event acting as a TRY ambassador, awarding kids medallions as they cross the finish line. A sports expo will be held at the event village.

Jane Power, from event sponsor Bupa, said that last year more than 14,000 Aussie kids took part in TRYathlon events across the country.

“Seeing your kids cross the finish line of the TRYathlon is a big moment for any parent,”
Ms Power said.

“We’re such long-term supporters of the TRYathlon.

“It’s a fantastic event for families around the country to prepare for and get involved in together.”

Register early to avoid disappointment as places are limited.
