The Bacchus Marsh fire brigade will this week obtain new equipment thanks to a generous donation.
Foodworks Bacchus Marsh has given $3000 to the brigade to help it buy a gas detector.
Bacchus Marsh captain Nathan Ractliffe said the gas detector was an extremely important piece of equipment needed by the brigade.
“It’s to monitor atmospheric conditions [when] firefighters are working in toxic environments,” Mr Ractliffe said.
He said the brigade needed important materials and equipment so it could better serve the community.
The brigade identified needed items and bought them when money became available through donations and sponsorship.
Mr Ractliffe said it was through donations and sponsors such as Foodworks Bacchus Marsh that the brigade was able to protect the community.
“The brigade would not be able to function without people and donations like this; it just wouldn’t happen,” he said.
“I think it’s terrific that a local business is supporting a local fire brigade.
“We are very grateful for the support of the community and of local businesses who get behind their local emergency services.”
Foodworks Bacchus Marsh supermarket owners Susan Lau and Alex Ng said they were happy to do their bit in helping the community.
Ms Lau said it was important to help the brigade, which in turn helped the community.
