Volunteers are the lifeblood of Djerriwarrh Health Services – which is why more are needed.
Chief executive Belinda Scott said that the call for volunteers was sounded after a recent recession in helping hands at Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital.
Even more will be needed with the new Melton Health and Community service to open in December, Ms Scott said.
“We are looking for as many Melton and Caroline Springs volunteers as possible,” she said.
“We need to make sure that we have a big pool of volunteers so that we can continue to operate to our full potential.
“We also want that pool to be a reflection of our diverse community, so if there are any people from minority groups that would like to put their hand up to volunteer, we would love to hear from them.”
Bernice Light has volunteered for more than 25 years for Bacchus Marsh’s visitor kiosk and meals on wheels service. She is also a past employee of the hospital.
Members of the Light family have long worked and volunteered within the organisation, with more than 100 years of service between them.
Ms Light is one of about 214 volunteers who donate their time to the health service on and off and Ms Scott said they are “absolutely fundamental” to ensuring high quality service for the local community.
“It would be difficult for Djerriwarrh to provide services to the community in the way that it does without the outstanding support of our volunteers,” she said.
“They play a vital role in the implementation and success of our programs.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have active and dedicated volunteers who generously donate their time across a broad range of services at Djerriwarrh.
“I feel honoured to have joined a health service with a passionate and connected team of volunteers devoted to enriching the service provided at Djerriwarrh.”
