Darley has secured the signature of former Carlton player Nick Graham for next year’s Ballarat Football League season.
Graham, who played 48 games in six years with the Blues, had a number of offers to continue his football career after being delisted, but eventually settled on joining the Devils.
Devils coach and former Carlton teammate Heath Scotland, said Graham was the one player they targeted once they knew he was available.
“Nick is certainly a quality bloke and fantastic player, who should still be playing AFL in my opinion,” Scotland said.
“When the time came we thought we would be a chance to get him. He met with a number of other clubs and had offers from VFL clubs, but he is done with that part of his football.
“He wants to enjoy his football and we’re happy he’s chosen us.”
Playing with Scotland isn’t the only connection Graham has at the Devils, with two brothers having played at the club.
Brian Graham has played with the Devils for the last two years and has again signed on for next year.
Scotland said the two had played with each other once before.
“They played a game together when Nick was younger,” Scotland said.
“It’ll be interesting to see them go head to head. I’ve said Brian is the best player in the competition, but I’m sure Nick will give him a run for his money.
“I might have to police it that they will have to kick to other players besides each other.”
Chris Graham played for the Devils in the 2017 premiership, before playing with Springbank in the Central Highlands Football League.
He played just nine games with ongoing effects from concussion causing him to miss several games.
Scotland said he was unsure whether Chris would be playing any football next year, but would love him to return to the club if he pulls on the boots again.
Scotland said they were still talking to a few other possible recruits. He said their main focus had been on retention.
He said ruckman Dylan Reid was leaving the club after one season and was returning to Queensland, while Rhys Ellis was possibly going to be traveling next year.
