Turner takes top job for third time

Transport, infrastructure and health services are among the big challenges that lie head for returning Melton mayor Bob Turner.

Cr Turner will don the mayoral chains again in 2019 – his third stint having served in the role last year and in 2013.

The experienced Coburns ward councillor was sworn in earlier this month with Watts ward Cr Lara Carli elected deputy mayor.

Cr Turner said the next 12 months would be a challenging and rewarding experience, especially as advocacy efforts are ramped up ahead of the state election.

“The next 12 months will be an exciting time for the city, and I am proud to be able to represent our residents as we continue to push for better roads, transport, schools and health services,” he said.

“I look forward to meeting so many more of our wonderful locals, while leading council in achieving the aspirations of the community.”

He thanked former deputy mayor Ken Hardy for his hard work and service over the past 12 months.

Cr Turner was first elected to the council in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2016.

He served as deputy mayor in 2012-13 and 2016-17.

Melton council’s last meeting of the year will be on December 10 at the civic centre from 7pm.
