Melton builds the buzz

Melton made it three from three with a fine win against Fitzroy Victoria in Bowls Victoria Pennant division 1, section 1.

Facing another undefeated side, the Melton players made the most of playing on their home green.

While they weren’t able to blow Fitzroy Victoria out of the water, the Melton players did enough to claim all four rinks and an
89 (18)-76 (0) win.

Melton skip Conrad Dawson said there was a massive buzz around the club.

“It was a good test for us and everyone was happy we could get over the line,” he said.

“We got away from them early. They are a quality side and they pegged us back towards the end.

“One of the rinks was delayed and it worked out they needed nine shots from four ends.

“We kept our fingers crossed and bowled tightly.”

Melton is one of two teams undefeated after three rounds. Melton is sitting in second place behind Moonee Valley, which has 52 points compared to Melton’s 50.

Dawson said they couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.

“Last season, we got five wins,” he said. “Now we’re hoping something special is happening for us.

“The last two games we’ve got maximum points, which is huge for us.”

Melton will this week face Brunswick, which will also be coming off a big win.

Melton’s third side also came away with a victory on Saturday.

The club’s second side lost, while fixtures for the fourth and fifth sides were washed out.

In Central Highlands Bowls Division top grade, Bacchus Marsh remains undefeated. It scored a 108 (14)-92 (4) win against Lancefield.

Kyneton Golf also remains unbeaten after beating Kyneton 100 (16)-84 (2).

In other division 1 results, Romsey defeated Gisborne Yellow 103 (14)-92 (4) and Trentham and Gisborne Red took home
nine points each after their match was washed out.
