IN FOCUS: Geelong hits the sidewalk for cup day

An initiative of Central Geelong Marketing, the Melbourne Cup Day event expects to see thousands of people flock to Central Geelong for a fantastic day out, to snap up a bargain and enjoy great food and entertainment.

Businesses right across Central Geelong will trade on the footpath, offering a huge range of special offers and sale items, with many more offering in-store specials.

The Form Guide – available online from October 26 – is the go-to for special offers on the day and what to see and do.

The Event Hub in Little Malop Street Central includes:

•Live music performances from the big band soul sound of The Sweethearts.

•A Garden Party area with a range of pop-up versions of some Central Geelong businesses including Lushious Australia, Kaisercraft, Rook Sri Lankan Fusion and more.

•A Pamper Marquee offering free mini make-up touch-ups, hair-ups and more from Invoque, the Centre of Excellence Hairdressing and Beauty College and the Victorian Fitness Academy.

•A Kids Zone with mechanical horses and crafts from Urban Upcycle.

The Hub in Little Malop Street West includes:

•Sweet Street with pop-ups including Armageddon Cake.

•A fashion parade featuring Own.Kind.

•Meet ambassador Anna Teague, Geelong Cats AFLW player.

There will be lunch specials from restaurants and cafes for shoppers to recharge – the tip is to get in early and make a reservation.

Venues throughout the city will screen the big race from Flemington to be enjoyed by the expected 25,000-plus people.
