Rupertswood win in extra time

Rupertswood needed extra time against Diggers Rest to claim a third straight Riddell District Netball League C-grade premiership.

In the match of they day across both netball and football, the Sharks eventually came out on top.

No more than two goals separated the teams at any of the three breaks, with neither side able to take control of the game.

The Sharks were in front for much of the day, but the Burras continued to fight and leveled the scores early in the last quarter.

The two teams went goal for goal late in the game, with scores finishing 22-22 all.

Once in extra time it was all the Sharks who had a bit more composure and eventually won, 32-26.

Sharks head coach Di McCormack said nerves played a part during the game.

“We wanted to ice the ball at the end, but we had a step and it through us into overtime.

“Going into overtime was good for us, as by then we had settled all our nerves.”

Diggers Rest’s Leah Hutton was named best on court. Hutton had already taken out the league C-grade best and fairest award.

McCormack said this side was one that just enjoyed playing together.

“It’s their third premiership in a row and it’s a team that is a mix of girls who have come together,” she said.

“t’s more about team work in this time. It’s about settling and recognising the right pass and when to do it

“It’s a mix of new and old.”
