Melton West men sentenced following burglary spree

Two Melton West men have been jailed over a two-month burglary spree of commercial properties.
A 34-year-old man pleaded guilty at the Sunshine Magistrates Court this month. He was charged with 16 burglaries, nine attempted burglaries, 11 counts of theft, and three counts of theft of motor vehicles.
He was  sentenced to three years and nine-months jail, with a non-parole period of three years.
A 36-year-old appeared at the Sunshine Magistrates Court last month. He pleaded guilty to 11 burglaries, five attempted burglaries, four thefts of motor vehicles, eight thefts, 14 counts of committing offences while on bail, and going equipped to steal. He was  sentenced to 22 months jail with a non-parole period of 15 months.
The court heard the men had gone on a two-month crime spree last year in Melton, Bacchus Marsh, Clayton, Waurn Ponds, Trentham and Ballan.
They were charged following an eight month investigation.
Detective Senior Constable Ross McCann said the sentences were the result of  “months of hard work” by Melton police with help from the local communities.
