Man charged over Truganina collision

A man has been charged following a fatal collision on Hopkins Road in Truganina on the weekend, after which two children died.

It is alleged a Ford Territory was travelling along Hopkins Road when it overtook a Honda SUV and collided head-on with a Ford Focus, about 12am on Sunday. The Territory also collided with the Honda SUV.

A 10-year-old girl from the Ford Focus died at the scene and a four-year-old boy from the same vehicle died in hospital yesterday evening.

The female driver remains in a critical condition, while the male passenger was released from hospital

Five occupants in the Honda SUV were not injured.

The 41-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the Ford Territory was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Territory, a Rockbank man who remains in hospital, was charged this evening with negligence causing serious injury and two counts of culpable driving.

Police will attend Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening to make a remand application.
