Damon Mariluch is taking his netball career all the way.
The 19-year-old, from Kurunjang, has been selected to play for Australia in the under-20s men’s team at the AMMNA Trans-Tasman Cup in Adelaide in October.
Mariluch has been playing top level netball for five years but said it started “pretty casually”.
“I got into it about five years ago when my friends were playing at the Melton indoor sports stadium and they needed an extra player,” he said.
“I filled in and really enjoyed it.”
He went on to play for the mixed national teams in 2016 and 2017 and will now take the court at goal keeper in the men’s competition this year.
“I love the camaraderie and you find a real bond on and off the court,” Mariluch said.
“Of course I cop a lot of teasing and jokes because I play netball but I have a good sense of humour, I shrug it off.”
His seven-day-a-week sports schedule includes training, playing football and coaching netball at Melton Centrals.
Mariluch is hoping for sponsorship to raise the $2000 to get him to Adelaide, to training camps in Canberra in August and pay for accommodation.
