The biggest Indian women’s event in Melton will be a kaleidoscope of colour and culture.
Teeyan Melton Deeyan, meaning Punjabi girls of Melton City, is expected to attract more than 400 women on July 15 for the annual event.
The Rooh Punjab Dee Melbourne dance school, a non-profit organisation where Indian-Australian children learn bhangra and gidha style folk dance, hosts the festivities to showcase its work in the community.
Organiser Dupinder Kaur said the event aimed to celebrate the Punjabi culture and promote women’s and children’s services.
She said about 500 kids attend the dance school from around the state.
“This is the biggest event of Indian ladies in Melton,” Mrs Kaur said.
“Last year we had a function at Melton Civic and it was a full house packed with entertainment and food. Women and girls from six to 50 years old participated.
“We encourage the children to learn good things like serving the community by participating in their culture.”
