Staughton brawl students face discipline

The principal of Staughton College has said that violence has “no place” at the school after a brawl involving dozens of students broke out last week.

A 30-second video clip of the fight, which happened on April 24, emerged on social media last week.

The video showed dozens of students punching and kicking, screaming and swearing at one another during a morning break.

Principal David Lord sent out a text message to parents confirming there had been an “altercation”.

Mr Lord told

Star Weekly appropriate disciplinary action would be taken.

“There is no place for incidents like this at our school,” he said.

“It is disappointing and does not reflect the behaviour of the overwhelming majority of our students.

“On Tuesday, there was an altercation between five students.

“No students or staff required medical attention and the school was not placed into lockdown.”

A concerned parent told 3AW that the fight allegedly started between two female students when one threw a hair accessory at the other before tensions boiled over into a brawl.

“I’m so upset for those teachers that had to go through that,” she said.

“I’m disgusted that the children had to witness that … I’m disgusted at the kids who had to be roped in when it had nothing to do with them.”
