Rare opportunity to help Scouts

A Melton Scout troop needs 60 carnivorous volunteers to help with its latest fundraiser.

The 2nd Melton Scouts group will host a meat sampling event on Friday, April 27, to raise money to help get its member to next year’s jamboree and for new toilets at its Blackwood Drive hall.

Meat lovers are being sought to register for steak testing and to fill out a survey for market researcher Tastepoint.

The troop will get $1000 for every 60 volunteers who participate.

Event co-ordinator Lita Tirkkonen said it was one of a number of initiatives that the Scouts are running to reach their goals.

“We’re fundraising for Jamboree 2019 because we have a group of kids that want to go to South Australia for that and it will cost about $1600 a child and $1500 per leader,”
Ms Tirkkonen said.

Upgrades to the Scout hall’s toilet facilities are expected to cost about $50,000.

Other fundraising efforts being undertaken by the Melton troop include sausage sizzles, Christmas trees sales, a colour run, discos and a wine drive.
