Bacchus Marsh hospital operations get a lift

The sterilisation unit at Bacchus Marsh hospital is in for an upgrade valued at almost half a million dollars.

Djerriwarrh Health Services will receive $468,000 in state funding for its Central Sterile Stock Department (CSSD), with new operating theatres already under construction.

Djerriwarrh interim chief executive Amanda Edwards said the additional government funding, announced last Thursday, was another positive development.

“This new funding announcement has come at an opportune time for Djerriwarrh Health Services,” she said. “This additional funding will allow us to seamlessly connect the CSSD with the newly renovated theatres and ensure efficient, effective sterilising services across the health service.

“The CSSD operates alongside the operating theatre suites to provide sterilising functions for re-usable instruments, disinfection of specialised items and traceability for all items that enter and exit the unit.”

Buninyong MP Geoff Howard said the funding was provided from the $200 million regional health infrastructure fund.

“The department will be re-designed and upgraded with new equipment, which will enable Djerriwarrh to improve processing, storage and distribution of sterile goods and equipment throughout its patient care areas,” he said.

“The largest of its kind in Victorian history, the fund is rebuilding rural and regional health services to ensure all Victorians can access the high-quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.”

Djerriwarrh Health Services serves Melton and Moorabool and includes Bacchus Marsh and Melton Regional Hospital, Melton Health, Bacchus Marsh Community Health Centre, Melton Community Health Centre and Caroline Springs Community Health
Centre.
