NAIDOC celebrations

About 100 Melton residents celebrated the rich culture and history of the land they stand on as part of NAIDOC week celebrations. Melton council raised the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at a ceremony last Thursday while traditional Aboriginal dancing, telling the story of the Bullum Bullum people, writing reconciliation messages and a community art workshop were some of the day’s activities. This year’s NAIDOC week theme was: “We all stand on sacred ground: learn, respect, celebrate”, highlighting the strong spiritual and cultural connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to their land and sea.
