Nursing home fire
A 51-year-old man has been charged with arson following a fire at a Bacchus Marsh nursing home last Thursday (January 25). Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged the Bacchus Marsh man and he was remanded in custody to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Staff and residents were evacuated during the blaze and a number of the occupants were treated for smoke inhalation.
Dumping charges
A Caroline Springs company and its sole director are due to face court over dumping of industrial waste at a rented property in Campbellfield. All Victoria Bin Hire and Demolition P/L and its director have been charged with depositing industrial waste at a place not licensed to accept it and appeared before Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on January 25.
Liquor robbery
A liquor store on Cradle Road, Diggers Rest was robbed in broad daylight on January 17. The owner said three men carried between $300-$400 worth of alcohol out the door at 11.47am before fleeing in a car. The men were caught on CCTV and police are investigating.
