October 26, 1977

Werribee Shire Council is facing a head-on clash with Sunshine and Altona councils over the subject of abattoirs at Laverton North. The certainty of a clash was brought out at a meeting between representatives of the three councils last week.

October 21, 1987

A fire which gutted a Werribee timber storage shed and caused about $400,000 damage last Thursday, was described by the local fire chief as the biggest blaze of its type in Werribee for five years. Werribee Fire Brigade (CFA) captain, Daryl Wells, said it was the worst building fire in Werribee since the old picture theatre in Station St was gutted in 1982.

The race that stops the city of Wyndham will be held next Wednesday at the Werribee Racing Club, Bulban Road, Werribee. The Westpoint Ford Werribee Cup is among the top-five richest races of the provincial circuit. Whether it’s the horses, corporate hospitality, fine fashions or glitz and glamour, the cup is set to be bigger and better than previously.
