Two Exford Primary school pupils will spend a night under the stars to raise awareness about the plight of children who live in extreme poverty.
Grade 6 mates Lucas and Aiden have decided to leave their customary comfort zone for
24 hours during the upcoming school holidays as part of a school project.
Teacher Ross Gundry said the curriculum unit on “How can we improve the lives of children who are suffering?” struck a chord with the two boys.
“I’m amazed at the idea that they came up with,” Mr Gundry said.
“I’m very proud at the way that the boys have taken the initiative and engaged with their community to raise money for a global
cause.”
The pair have been raising money through an online crowdfunding page that has gone past $250.
“We are going to sleep outdoors with nothing but clothes on our backs, barley sugar for food and water to drink,” Aiden said.
“During this time, we will have to build our own shelter with nothing but natural materials … so we can raise as much money as possible for children in Africa who are living in extreme poverty.”
All of the donations will go to Caritas Australia, which specialises in supporting people in poverty.
