Melton students are tackling the big issues
for an upcoming kids conference about the environment.
Kurunjang Secondary College students have been selected to present at the Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids Conference in Melbourne next month and have chosen to focus on the world’s diminishing water supply.
Supervising teacher Meli Panagiotidis said the two-day event aims to inspire future environmental leaders from local schools to discuss environmental issues and pledge their commitment to make a difference.
“We’ve got a moral and ethical responsibility to instill a sense of social awareness in our kids,” Ms Panagiotidis said.
“We want our kids to be able to think
about the world around them and the water crisis suffered by millions of people around
the world.
“We also want the children to think about how they can make a difference.”
The eight year 9 students will raise awareness about the state of the world’s water supply and the 663 million people in the world who don’t have access to clean drinking water.
This week they started fundraising for the Global Aid Network Australia’s Water for Life initiative with a goal to raise $5000 towards building a well in a rural village in Benin, West Africa.
