Three kilometres of 40-year-old pipeline has been replaced in Darley meaning fewer water disruptions for residents.

The $950,000 project involved replacing the large water main on Gisborne Road between Lerderderg Gorge and Bences roads. It was part of Western Water’s capital investment program.

Western Water general manager customer and community relations Graham Holt said the works involved a combination of open-cut trenches and boring underground to minimise impact on native vegetation.

“The new water main will mean fewer water main bursts for our customers,” Mr Holt said.

“This means less likelihood of people’s water supply being disrupted, and less work for us in repairing damage caused by bursts.”

Mr Holt said the project was completed ahead of time and with minimal disruption to traffic and residents.

Work to restore the road verge to its original condition is due to start this month.
