Back to school for learning late in life

There’s an old adage that variety is the spice of life and you’re never too old to try something new.

That’s the message for Adult Learners’ Week which starts this Friday.

Melton council is embracing and promoting adult learning by hosting a variety of free activities and workshops at its libraries and neighbourhood houses during the week, from September 1 to 8.

Locals can discover their hidden talents at the workshops, designed to highlight the benefits of learning in the community.

Melton mayor Sophie Ramsey said the council was proud to encourage its residents to put aside any fears and jump head first into learning something new.

“Education is incredibly important for everyone, not just for children, but for adults too,” Cr Ramsey said.

“It’s never too late to learn, and Adult Learners’ Week is the perfect excuse for locals to attempt a new hobby or workshop they’ve always been interested in.”

Workshops on offer include meditation, Indian head massage, Thai cooking, gardening as starting your own business.
