Centrals cruise to solid victory over Riddell

Melton Centrals kept its hold on a top six spot in the Riddell Netball League A-grade following a strong 13-goal win over Riddell on Saturday.

With Riddell just a game behind Centrals coming into the round it was a crucial contest for both sides, and after keeping it tight early it was the home side which was able to break away to record a 58-45 victory.

Centrals’ goal shooter Vanessa Seddon was on song early as she bagged 12 goals in the first quarter. She demanded the ball and got herself into strong scoring positions.

The home side led by three points at the first change, and stretched that out to seven by half-time. The lead extended with each quarter as they cruised to the win.

Seddon continued to be a handful for the Riddell defense all day – she finished with 46 goals from an amazing 68 shots. Rebecca Morabito provided great support with an efficient 12 goals from 16 shots.

Elsewhere, Rockbank struggled to find avenues to goal as it went down to Romsey convincingly, 47-26.

The Rams scored just four goals in the first quarter as they shot at a disappointing 37 per cent, with the home side opening up a handy early lead.

The efficiency of the Rams attackers improved as the game went on, but they did not get enough looks at goal to cause Romsey enough problems, failing to reach double figures in any quarter.

Romsey extended the lead at every change, however Jessica Herron (15 goals) toiled hard all day and goal keeper Danni Jane Umaki made life as difficult as she could for the home side’s forwards.

Diggers Rest struggled to contain the rampant scoring of Rupertswood as it went down 60-45.

Rupertswood scored at least 15 goals in each of the first three quarters to open up a match-winning lead, as its shooters made the most of good supply and shot with incredible efficiency.

Diggers Rest toiled hard and was able to hit the scoreboard consistently, but could not match the forward firepower of the hosts.

Amy Carroll (25 goals from 28 shots) was good all day for the vanquished, while Shelby Strong (20 goals) was also good.
