Diggers Rest returned to the winners’ list in the Riddell District Netball League with a hard-fought win against Rockbank.

After three losses against sides in the top six, the Burras were looking to get their season back on track against the Rams, who were coming off their first win of the season.

The Rams led at quarter-time before the Burras found their groove to lead by eight goals at half-time.

They extended the lead to 11 goals at the last break, before an even last quarter. The Burras went on to win 42-29.

Burras playing coach Amy Carroll scored 27 goals. Rianne Vining scored 16 goals to be the Rams’ best shooter.

In positive signs for the Rams, the margin was significantly less than the 34-goal loss they endured the last time the two teams met, just over a month ago.

The Burras move to fifth on the ladder, ahead of Melton Centrals on percentage. They have a tough couple of weeks ahead, with matches against Rupertswood and Macedon.

Centrals were no match for ladder leader Macedon, losing 64-41.

The Cats did most of the damage in the 21-4 second quarter against the Centrals, who were missing two of their key mid-courters. Rebecca Morabito shot 19 goals from 20 attempts in the loss.

Centrals now face Riddell, which is a game and percentage outside the top six.
