Melton in high scoring loss

Melton’s men’s hockey team fell short in a high-scoring match against ECHO in Hockey Victoria’s winter Vic League 3 competition.

Looking for their second win of the season, the Mustangs scored three times but it wasn’t enough losing 5-3.

Stephen Lawrence was the goal scorer for the Mustangs, who remains fifth on the ladder after the game.

The men’s reserve team had a better day, defeating ECHO 5-0. Ben Hanley-Woodbridge, Jason Knight, Scott McLaren, Matthew Mumford and Ben Strebs-Stelps scored for the Mustangs.

The win was the side’s first for the season and moved them from bottom of the ladder to fifth.

The metro 3 north west side also lost, 4-3 to Footscray.

Both women’s sides lost against ECHO.

The Vic league 2 side which was looking for its first win of the season lost 4-0, while the reserves side, also remains winless, losing 2-1. Kiara Ive was the scorer for the Mustangs.

All the senior sides have the weekend off for the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

In the juniors, the under-10 girls and under-10 mixed side lost, the under-12s had an 8-0 win against Footscray with Charlotte Fraser scoring a hat-trick and the under-14s won 4-0 against Footscray.
