Drivers learn safe thinking

Melton’s young drivers were given a lesson on road safety, and the deadly consequences of slight distractions, at a training session last week.

Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services hosted a road safety day for its VCAL students, who have been learning about community and road safety throughout this term.

Police, VicRoads staff and members of Victims of Road Trauma Support Group gave talks on topics such as looking after your mates and buying your first car.

Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services spokeswoman Kathi Parer said the students used an “in-car simulator” to get a taste of what driving in the real world might feel like.

“The students also looked at what driving distractions are really like when they drive the in-car simulator,” Ms Parer said.

“Melton’s young people will take many valuable ideas with them on their journey to becoming a safe P-plate driver.”
