Police hunt Tarneit shooter

One man has been shot and three others injured during an early morning shooting and assault by a gang of masked intruders in Tarneit.

Police were called to a Conway Street property about 4.15am on Tuesday after residents reported sounds of a disturbance and a gunshot.

Paramedics treated a 31-year-old man with what is believed to be an upper body gunshot wound at the scene.

He was transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and reportedly in a serious but stable condition and may require surgery. A 32-year-old woman was also treated for upper body injuries and was taken to The Alfred Hospital in a stable condition. A 34-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were also taken to The Alfred with assault-related injuries; all are in a stable condition.

The armed crime squad was yesterday investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and spent the morning studying CCTV footage from security cameras at a neighbouring property.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Eyries said police were looking for between two to four offenders, all of whom had their faces covered throughout the attack.

It is believed one of the offenders was armed with a gun, and the others armed with baseball bats or similar weapons.

Detective Sergeant Eyries said the victims were assisting police with inquiries, but could not confirm if the parties were known to each other.

“What I can say at this point of experience, these are generally not of a random nature,” he said.

No arrests had been made at the time

Star Weekly went to print.

Police are calling on anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
