A scorecard for council

Melton and Moorabool residents may soon get a call from a state government department about their council’s performance in the past year.

Local Government Victoria will call 27,000 Victorians in the next two months as part of its annual Community Satisfaction Survey, with questions being asked about how councils are rated on community consultation, advocacy and customer service.

Four hundred residents from each local government area will be selected randomly to take part in the phone survey.

Findings from the survey will be published on the Know Your Council website, allowing the public to compare the performances of similar councils.

Local Government Victoria will also publish the Statewide Community Satisfaction Survey Research Report after councils receive their reports by the end of May.

Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins said the survey helped give councils a better idea of what was important to residents.

“This is an important tool to assess the effectiveness of local councils and a great opportunity for Victorians to have their voice heard on the issue,” she said.
