Melton’s Chinese community ushered in the year of the rooster last week with good food, great company and lots of laughs.
More than 120 people celebrated Chinese new year at Caroline Springs Leisure Centre, devouring dishes of traditional food, including dumplings, as well as getting into swing with singing and dancing.
Melton Chinese Friendship Association secretary Vivien Yang said it brought the Chinese diaspora together.
“Although they’re in Australia, the group still miss China,” Ms Yang said. “So it’s a great way for them to celebrate and feel the same as they did back home.”
