Citywide search works for Ric Brown

For the past 28 years, Ric Brown has been behind the wheel of a truck … but he was always looking for ways out.

About six months ago, the Melton man called it quits to look for something new – now he’s found a job on the drainage services team with Citywide.

The infrastructure services company was recently awarded a six year contract by Melton council to maintain the city’s trees and parks, and look after its drains.

A Citywide spokeswoman said the partnership created more than 70 new jobs in the municipality, with most workers living locally.

Mr Brown says he loves working close to home and operating machinery in lieu of driving a truck on “rough roads”.

“You can also learn a lot more on this job,” Mr Brown says. “I’m really grateful – I’m loving the job, and everyone’s really good.

“I’ve made heaps of friends.”

Citywide operations leader Ray Farrell said the organisation is focused on upskilling, and multiskilling, its employees.

“We’re giving them a bit of variety within the team, and more knowledge,” Mr Farrell said.
