Police search for missing Darley man James Grimes

There are growing fears for a Darley man who’s been missing since Saturday morning.

James Grimes left his Swans Road home about 8.30am on Saturday and has not made contact with anyone since.

Police say they’re concerned for the welfare of Mr Grimes, who might have been seen along the Lerderderg River.

Mr Grimes is described as about 185 centimetres tall, slim build, caucasian and speaks with an American accent. He is balding and has long white facial hair.

He was wearing a backpack when he left home.

Police have released an image of Mr Grimes but say he has aged several years and changed his facial hair since the photo was taken.

This week is National Missing Persons Week, and this year’s theme is “missing people leave frayed edges – stay connected”.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin and Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Wendy Steendam launched the event on Monday morning, reminding people more than 35,000 Australians are reported missing each year.

“Behind every one of those, there’s family, friends, colleagues and a community left behind.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
