Melton South: New business centre a great base for western growth

Melton’s new and much anticipated business centre officially opened last week.

The Western Business Accelerator and Centre of Excellence (Western BACE) in Melton South has been built to help boost the development and growth of small businesses in Melbourne’s western region.

Melton mayor Sophie Ramsey said the centre could be the foundation for growth in the local economy for generations to come.

“The Western BACE is a landmark training and economic development facility that’s set to change the face of business within the City of Melton and beyond,” Cr Ramsey said.

Cr Ramsey said the facility would help create jobs and stimulate growth for the benefit of everyone.

“I know this is something from which we can all benefit and our community is set to thrive as a result,” Cr Ramsey said.

The Western BACE has already scored an engineering excellence award for its eco-friendly design and construction.

It is a six-star green star building (a green star is an internationally recognised sustainability rating system) and offers offices and workshops at discounted rental rates, month-to-month licensing and flexible co-working spaces for casual use by home-based businesses and micro-businesses looking for temporary space.

It is home to business mentors who can provide expert advice and support business networking opportunities. The centre also has training and research spaces for tertiary education, an IT hub and a cafe.

The Western BACE is at 222 Ferris Road, Melton South.
